God has laid on my heart this Advent season to do something different and to try to SHARE the spirit of Advent with others. I had no idea what that looked like until this week. Tonight I was trying to make a video in advance and then post it for you all. As I was trying to make the video I was reminded that man do we all need God’s grace! I could not for the life of me figure out how to record a video on my brand new laptop (come on Sarah Marie!) and so I gave up and started recording one on my phone and Derick proceeded to stomp through the living room, flush the toilet in the bathroom off our living room and was doing a bunch of loud stuff on his phone! Haha! Not the vibe I was going for, but God’s plan prevails! He wanted me to be live, so I was. He wanted me to be vulnerable so I was! And of course in the live video my nose was itching like mad the whole time and I could not stop sniffing. What fun!
I am doing my study of Advent this year through a She Reads Truth study book that I ordered from their website. It is a beautiful paper book that is full of scripture and hymns broken down by the day. The feature verse for the study comes from Isaiah 9.
“He shall be called– Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” As I was pouring over these words tonight I teared up thinking about these names of Jesus being spoken aloud. The thought of God naming him, speaking about the Holy Trinity and his Son before he was even in Mary’s womb. This is so awe inspiring to me that way back in the Old Testament times they heard Jesus’ names and heard this good news. Isaiah 9 also has part of a verse that says, “of PEACE there will be no end.” Never-ending peace is something that I want in my life. I get so busy and distracted in the Holiday season that I think God put all of this on my heart so he could truly help me experience what his kind of peace feels like. I hope that in some way me sharing what I am learning through this study will help you have a peaceful spirit during this season.
Here are some of the key verses and topics I discussed:
1/ Genesis 3: The Beginning in the Garden
“They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the Garden at the time of the evening breeze.”
2/ 1 Corinthians 15: Freedom from Sin and Fear
“Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these. So that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death–and FREE those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.”
3/ Isaiah 7, 1 John: The Birth Prophesied
“The Lord himself will give you a sign.”
“He will be called: The Lord is Our Righteous.”
“Immanuel: God is with us.”
“God’s love was revealed AMONG us this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
4/ Revelation 21: God is With Us
“Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God.”
